What do we do
Conservation and Reforestation
The Amazon is the largest forest on the planet and one of the regions with the greatest biodiversity in the world, which is why it plays a fundamental role in the fight against global warming and climate change.
A project like Ni Meraya, committed to conservation and reforestation, was born to provide a small but concrete response to the problems generated by the unsustainable use of our planet’s resources: a Swiss study estimates that it would be necessary to plant 1,200,000 million trees to absorb two thirds of the CO2 produced by man since the industrial era.
We do our part!
Conservation
Conservation consists of caring for and protecting the plants that are found within the Private Conservation Area. Currently there are around 10,000 trees of different species within the Ni Meraya, which will increase through reforestation activities.
Riforestation
Reforestation consists of repopulating the territory, planting various species of trees, to enrich ecosystems and maintain diversity. Since we started in February 2022, we have managed to reforest around 1.800 trees. We hope this number will increase.
How much CO2 a tree absorbs
It is very difficult to calculate how much CO2 a tree absorbs. As it happens with all living beings, there is no identical plant to the other, each one is different and unique. Therefore, no tree has the same level of eco-efficiency. The elements that determine the carbon absorption capacity vary according to the plant and the place, for which factors such as the composition of the forest, the type of plant, age, size, among others, must be considered.
On average, a young tree absorbs around 167 kg of CO2 per year, while 6 mature trees can absorb up to 1 ton of CO2 per year. However, it is known that the greater the variety of tree species, the better CO2 absorption.
At Ni Meraya we conserve and reforest the plant species that are currently within the conservation area, as well as protect the ecosystem and its inhabitants. In addition, we seek to recover and protect species of flora and fauna in the region that are currently in danger of extinction.
The Ni Meraya Private Conservation Area covers 13.18 hectares in which we aim to plant 8.000 trees.
Meliponas bees, the Amazon stingless bees
Within our commitments as a Private Conservation Area is the breeding of melipona bees, a species native to the area. They, in addition to producing a honey with multiple benefits (this honey has nutritional and healing properties greater than common honey), They are our great allies in the reforestation of the forest.
We know that honey is used to heal wounds and treat infections, and with the Amazon Conservation Network of Loreto – RACOL we want it to also be an economic aid for the conservationists of the Loreto Amazon.

The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best moment is now.
